Our Snowbirds are returning.  Traffic has picked up.  Restaurants have reopened following their September hiatus.  This season, with the trauma in our economy, the Northern escapees to our Southwest Florida paradise will be welcome indeed!

 As I had a good response regarding the six-month chart I prepared, I have now compiled the nine-month numbers for you.  You will note that the format is somewhat different, based on feedback I received.  The enclosed includes information for the first three-quarters of the years 2008, 2007, 2006 and 2005, comparing number of closed sales, average selling price, average days on the market (DOM), total sales volume, etc.  SP is selling price.  All info is from our San-Cap MLS.  It shows you, at a glance, what is happening on our islands.  

I have just listed 461 Lighthouse Way .  It is a magnificently renovated 4/4, with 4,453 square feet of air conditioned luxury.  The 20’ x 40’ great room is majestic, with 12’ ceilings, wet bar and walls of sliders to the pool and dockage.  The home also includes an office, a master suite with private reading/fitness room, several balconies with Bay and canal vistas, and a sky deck the view from which, under the stars, will take your breath away!  

You probably have heard of the passing of Gale Bennett.  Gale taught at BIG Arts and at his studio in Giverny , France , where Ada , a co-worker and friend, and I were fortunate to attend one of his classes.  Gale was a master in the use of primary colors to capture light, shading and balance, and in the use of inspiration and encouragement to draw out true works of art from his students.  A not-to-be missed artist’s reception will be held at BIG Arts on November 1 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.  It will include a 45-year retrospective of Gale’s work, as well as paintings by several of his students.  

Development, permitting and related issues have been hot topics on Sanibel Island .  Thank goodness the continuation of the hearings has been scheduled for November, when many seasonal residents will be on the island and, hence, able to participate.
